Interested in becoming part of Brown's Engineering Undergraduate Community?

The undergraduate program in the Division of Engineering is very unique, setting us apart from other universities.  Incoming students do not have to choose their concentration in engineering until the end of their sophomore year, and all engineering students engage in a highly interdisciplinary suite of courses in engineering, mathematics and other sciences.

On the engineering side, students take courses in statics, dynamics of vibrations, electricity and magnetism, electronic circuits, materials science, fluid dynamics, to name a few.  Some courses have a significant design component, such as statics which requires students to design a structure that can bear excessive loads, such as a tent or exercise machine.  Thermodynamics often runs a power plant design project, where student projects are uprooted when an environmental activist group comes into the class to protest the design – the students have to go back to the drawing broad to satisfy the group.  This vibrant and challenging interdisciplinary core provides students with a strong engineering skill set, one in which is focused on fundamentals so as not to become outdated.
